My Story

Born in Xi'an, China, and educated in the US, I ventured back after specializing in communications studies domestically in the US. I assimilated in China, as an interpreter, translator, lecturer, and consultant with a career perspective that required rapid cultural adaptation and vital skills in communications.

Along with my passion, professionalism, and experience, I hope to make substantial contributions and be able to greatly expand both my professional and personal growth initiatives.

I still remain goal orientated while retaining a capacity to utilize linguistics skills, all in pursuit of providing interpreting/translation services with efficiency and ethical conduct.

I am a detail-oriented localization specialist to facilitate, to improve communications, and participate In team building/actualization and recognizing the linkage between linguistic communications and deliverance of precision-quality consumerist-orientated results to business/individualized sectors across the community/corporate spectrum with consistency, linguistic versatility, and expanding marketability of acquired skillsets.

Skills and Experience: | Conference Interpreting | Simultaneous Interpreting | Terminology & Vernacular/Dialects | Localization | Introduction to China-related Business Models | Chinese Writing and Literature | Executive Assistantship | International Liaison | Cultural Bridge Builder |

Growing up in China/CN for 11+ years has taught me lessons about bi-cultural and linguistic familiarization preferred in the translation/interpreting realms. After completing my undergraduate degree in Political Science (communications-based) at Emerson College, Boston, MA, US, I ventured forth to further investigate possibilities at NWU., CN and successfully pursued a "binary-combined" degree in Chinese Studies/Mandarin/Interpreting while earning advanced standing in both the HSK (see below) standardized, and simultaneous graduation completed in approximately 2 years instead of 4 upon attending the CICE Institute, NWU., CN.

I was employed in Xi'an as an ESL consultant involved in curricular design, translator/interpreter for select biopharma/biotechnology, bilingual lecturer, and IELTS/TOEFL iBT instructor as well as VIP consultancy liaison for an NYSE-debuted educational corporation. I then became a medical interpreter for hospital consortiums and independent health agencies, as well as a freelance legal translator, conference interpreter, simultaneous interpreter, and bilingual communicator.

I travel and delight in the usage of cross-cultural nuances in individualized self-expressionism and the creative arts.
Interests include Chinese media involvement in commerce, ancient Chinese civilizational trends, digital arts, photography, European literature, Renaissance art revivals, critical thinking in Western philosophy, Grecian and Roman mythologies, The Jazz Age, American literature of the Frontier, legal studies/research, plus additional US Constitutional studies and its "flexible" role in shaping the evolving American political landscape.

I am deeply conscious about biculturalism and bilingualism as the matrices of adjusting to both life in China and the US. This is a central and motivational impetus: to broaden exchanges in cross-cultural sectors that I am driven to achieve through key strategic exploration and cultural analyses. A direct opportunity through the uniqueness of parallel perspectives granted through the acquisition of the two languages and continuous immersion into the two cultural models has enabled me to provide results-driven services.

➢ Range of erudition in interpreting: conference, business, medical, educational, hospitality, simultaneous.

➢ The liaison-based approach in building rapport in client-linguist relationships.

➢ International cultural background experience: (7+) years of assimilation, including cultural immersion, (3+) years as a student and freelancing consultant/employee.

As an interpreter and translator, the most rewarding aspects are accomplished through identifying and then accomplishing the individualized objectives of others whenever and wherever there is a communications "gap" or barrier.

Whether it is on-site and related person-to-person communications where diligence is given to a project that may require extensive personal involvement, it's surprising how clients will feel reassured and more satisfied with the highest degree of the caliber of your involvement, which is your service, your time, and your personal investment.

I treasure the concept of achieving my best and just being present for those who are unable to understand a foreign language. It is also immensely fun to play around with words and think of better, more creative ways to bring innovation to teaching, writing, and thinking, all in a completely different language. There is enthusiasm aplenty!

Snowflake

Writer

I'm looking to re-invent myself through self-exploration, which has taught me, at times, rather serendipitous lessons.
I venture to look beyond the "fishing bowls" of cultural identities, ethnic diasporas, "Dis-proportionalities," unrest, and a desire to transcend the "fabled" Americanized "norm" and give voice to a lifetime of evolving that will, hopefully, never cease. There is never a lack of creativity that supplants my creative desire to express that is both incredibly intellectual but welcomingly common-place.
Amongst my studied authors are those in the traditional and newer American Southern vernacular: Faulkner, Styron, Welty. Then, European masters: Kafka, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Pushkin, Voltaire. Finally, Kingston, Fitzgerald, Capote, Twain, Updike, Steinbeck, London, and my personal favorite Nathanael West, absolute gems of the American zeitgeist that I relish and find incredibly inspirational at times.
There is never the issue of reading and learning the art of writing on a heightened level of passion and compassion that I do not find especially rewarding. I'm dedicated to bearing testimony in vignettes, novellas, novelistic pieces, and writings both creatively fictional and as well as those autobiographical/non-fictional pieces in sustaining my continued growth as an emerging writer.

I consider education as a personal experience dedicated to the honing of essential skillsets and communicative mindfulness. It is majorly a holistic experience that is vastly enriched by internationalized cultural exposure and dedication to the art and science of learning; both the technicalities and the practicalities in navigating unfamiliar terrains that become mastered in some capacity through shared experiences with those on similar trajectories. I endeavor to continue learning and applying what I have learned to degrees of further exploring life and its vast potential for edifying my personal knowledge and its usage.
